U.S. Forces Shoot Down Four Iranian Drones Near Strait of Hormuz, Strike Radar Sites

CENTCOM says radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island were struck in self-defense after drones threatened maritime traffic

U.S. forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz on Friday and struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites afterward, U.S. Central Command said.

CENTCOM said the drones posed an immediate threat to maritime traffic in the strait. U.S. forces then hit radar installations in Iran’s Goruk region and on Qeshm Island to defend against further attacks, the command said. CENTCOM reported no U.S. casualties or equipment damage.

“American forces remain vigilant and postured to respond to unjustified Iranian aggression in self-defense,” CENTCOM said.

The Strait of Hormuz carries roughly 20 percent of global oil shipments. No disruption to shipping was reported after Friday’s exchange.

Friday’s exchange came as fragile cease-fire talks between the United States and Iran continue. Both sides have remained on high alert following recent similar exchanges, officials said.
