Democrats win Congress; Jeffries in line to be first Black speakerDemocrats will run both chambers of Congress next year, and Hakeem Jeffries is in line to become the first Black speaker of the House. The Associated Press has called the Senate and the House for Democrats, with 223 House seats called to Republicans' 138. In Virginia, Mark Warner won re-election to the U.S. Senate, 61.1% to 38.9% over Bert Mizusawa, and nine of 11 House races have been called — seven for Democrats and two for Republicans — with Shannon Taylor leading in the 1st District and John McGuire leading in the 5th, both still too early to call.
