UEFA announced Monday that a moment of silence will be held before every Champions League match this week to honor victims of Nepal’s flash floods.
A banner will also be displayed before the matches as a sign of solidarity and support. It will carry the message, “You are not alone Nepal.”
UEFA identified the disaster as devastating flash floods that struck Nepal on Aug. 26. The organization did not include casualty figures in its Sept. 7 announcement.
“The entire European football family will stand together before this week’s matches,” UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said.
He said the tribute would convey condolences and support to Nepal’s people. Čeferin also wished them strength and resilience as they continue recovering from the flooding and its aftermath.
