Witkoff, Kushner Arrive in Kyiv for Talks With Ukraine

The U.S. envoys arrived in Kyiv following meetings in Moscow and a stop in Poland.

U .S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner began talks with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv on Sept. 6, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy wrote, “We began talks.”

Before their arrival to Kyiv, Zelenskyy wrote that he has already met the negotiating team of Ukraine and that the country is prepared. Ukraine wants to end the war and needs security guarantees and “dignified character of the post-war peace.”

TASS reported that the envoys met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Sept. 5. Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said the meeting lasted three hours and 10 minutes.

Ushakov described the meeting as “substantive, constructive, extremely frank and trusting” and said discussions continued informally over dinner.

TASS separately reported that the envoys’ plane landed in Rzeszow, Poland, at 1:31 a.m. local time. The agency said they would probably continue to Kyiv by rail, but that was not confirmed.

This is a developing story. Virginia Times will update as information becomes available.
