Two police officers are among multiple people injured in a shooting near 15 E. Grant St. in downtown Minneapolis, according to a City of Minneapolis alert.
Minneapolis police were on the scene, and the alert asked the public to avoid the area bounded by 12th Street, Franklin Avenue, Hennepin Avenue and Third Avenue South.
Gov. Tim Walz wrote that his public safety team was responding to the afternoon shooting, with state officials “on the ground to support local law enforcement.”
The response at Nicollet and Grant drew officers from St. Louis Park, Edina, the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota State Patrol, transit police and sheriff’s deputies from surrounding jurisdictions.
Officers concentrated on an apartment complex on Grant Street, some carrying long guns as they watched the building. Two armored SWAT vehicles were staged at the intersection, and ambulances lined nearby blocks.
WCCO reporter Conor Wight said onlookers appeared to see activity around the complex’s eighth floor, where people believed to be residents were visible.
Several stretchers were carried from the building. Some of those removed appeared to have leg injuries; the condition of others was not immediately clear.
The alert did not give a victim total, victims’ conditions or a cause.
