Israel hit military and economic targets across Iran and Hezbollah positions in Beirut over the past 24 hours, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday. He said Israel stopped striking only when Iran stopped shooting.
“Iran will not have nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said in a statement on his official X account. He called the strikes a direct answer to a new “equation” Iran and Hezbollah tried to impose — one he said he found “intolerable and unacceptable.”
A year ago, Netanyahu said, Israel launched a preemptive strike that he said stopped Iran from destroying Israel with atomic bombs. He also said the operation killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, though his statement offered no independent confirmation of that claim.
Netanyahu said Israel also eliminated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Israeli forces are pressing ahead to tear apart Hezbollah’s infrastructure in Lebanon, he said, including what he called enormous underground facilities at the Beaufort Ridge.
“So massive that they are unlike anything I have ever seen,” Netanyahu said.
Israel is holding its fire for now, Netanyahu said, but he warned that any new Iranian attack would bring an overwhelming response.
He said he spoke directly with President Donald Trump, describing the conversations as good talks carried out with “appreciation and respect.”
“With unity, determination and wisdom — we will protect the State of Israel,” he said.
