China Rejects Trump Claim That Seized Iranian Ship Carried ‘Gift’ From Beijing

Beijing pushes back after Trump says U.S. forces intercepted a ship carrying a “gift” from China to Iran.

China rejected President Donald Trump’s claim that a ship intercepted by U.S. forces was carrying a “gift” from China to Iran, saying accusations without evidence should not disrupt normal trade.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a post responding to Trump’s comments, “China rejects any claim or speculation that lacks factual evidence.” “Normal trade between countries should not be interrupted.”

Trump made the comments in an interview with CNBC, saying U.S. forces had intercepted a ship carrying what he described as a “gift” from China to Iran.

Trump told CNBC that the ship had “a gift from China” that “wasn’t very nice.” “I was a little surprised,” he said, adding that he thought he had a “deal” with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry did not confirm the nature of the cargo. It also did not directly address Trump’s broader allegation beyond rejecting what it described as assertions and speculation without factual evidence.

The U.S. has not made public the full contents of the ship in the materials it has given. China said that trade between countries should go on as usual.
