In a fourth-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, Tesla Motors Inc. CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla will wind down production of the Model S sedan and Model X SUV next quarter.
“It’s time to basically bring the Model S and X programs to an end with an honorable discharge,” Musk said during the call. “We will continue to support the Model S and X programs for as long as people have the vehicles.”
Musk said Tesla plans to convert the current Model S/X production space at its Fremont, California factory into an Optimus robot factory. Tesla describes Fremont as its hub for Model S and Model X production.
Tesla began Model S deliveries in June 2012, and the company’s IR updates show Model X first deliveries in 2015. Tesla also describes its Austin-area Gigafactory Texas as the home of Cybertruck
