India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series starting Sunday, Sept. 14, the team’s last competitive run before the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup begins Sept. 30. India open the tournament against Sri Lanka. According to the International Cricket Council, the series will help sharpen combinations and test depth ahead of the home World Cup.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur framed the contest as the right challenge at the right time against the reigning champions. India have won nine of 11 ODIs this year, including series victories over England and Ireland and a tri-series title that featured Sri Lanka and South Africa, the ICC reported.
“Before the World Cup, this series is very important for us, and we are very happy that we have got this opportunity playing with one of the best teams before going to the World Cup,” said Harmanpreet Kaur, India captain, as quoted by the International Cricket Council
Rotation is expected across the three matches as India balance workloads and form, Kaur said. The hosts have targeted fielding and fitness upgrades over the past 18 months while keeping a settled core, a blend they believe can translate under pressure.
Australia is still the best, but India’s skipper says her team has reduced the distance. She said that the belief comes from the small wins that have started to show up in the results.
The first match of the series will be on Sunday, while the other ODIs will be later in the week. The ICC and national boards have official information about matches and broadcasts.
