U.S. Forces Strike IRGC Targets in Iran, CENTCOM Says

U.S. forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran at noon ET, U.S. Central Command announced.

The command said the strikes followed recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members deployed to the region.

CENTCOM’s post did not identify the targets, disclose the number of strikes or report casualties or damage. Virginia Times could not independently verify the command’s account of the attempted IRGC attacks from the supplied information.

In a separate State Department travel advisory, officials described the regional security environment as complex and warned of possible unforeseen escalation.

The department urged Americans in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance and be aware of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions. It advised travelers to monitor airport and airline operations.

The advisory also warned that Iran and groups supportive of it may target U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and Americans worldwide, including U.S. businesses and other institutions. The warning identified a potential threat and did not report a specific attack.
