A Thai-flagged cargo vessel was attacked while sailing near the Strait of Hormuz, and efforts were underway to assist all 23 Thai crew members on board.
Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaiyaphan, a navy spokesperson, said the navy’s Maritime Traffic Control Center received an initial report that the bulk carrier Mayuree Naree came under attack at about 11 a.m. local time on March 11, 2026, while transiting waters near the strait.
Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaiyaphan, the navy’s spokesperson, said the vessel had departed Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates at 3 a.m. earlier that day. The navy said the ship, owned by Precious Shipping, has a deadweight of about 30,000 tonnes.
Following the report, the navy said it moved to coordinate assistance through international maritime security channels. Thai naval liaison officers assigned to the Combined Maritime Forces contacted the Royal Thai Navy Embassy in Muscat to seek immediate help from local authorities.
The statement said the Royal Navy of Oman had already assisted 20 crew members and brought them ashore in Khasab, Oman. Efforts were continuing to assist three other crew members who remained on board.
The Royal Thai Navy said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and speed coordination with relevant agencies in Thailand and abroad to help all 23 Thai crew members as quickly and safely as possible.
Authorities said the cause of the attack and those responsible were still under investigation.
