Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were seen together for the first time in the U.S. on Saturday, September 20, at Kevin Costner’s beach house in Carpinteria, California, for the One805LIVE! “Rock for First Responders” charity event. This was their first public appearance together since Harry’s private meeting with King Charles III earlier this month. The event gets money for initiatives that help first responders in Santa Barbara County have better equipment and mental health care.
Harry, who was there for the third year in a row, also went on stage to give an award to Mark Hartwig, the fire chief of Santa Barbara County. Meghan came out to see him for a short while before going back to the stage. Trisha Yearwood, Good Charlotte, and The Fray were among the performers who helped the charity’s work in the county.
KEYT, a local news station, said that the performance drew a star-studded crowd along the shore and talked about how the cause is focused on wellness care for first responders. Every year, the concert happens at Costner’s Pacific-view house in the area.
Harry just got back from London, where he visited with his father discreetly at Clarence House. This was their first time seeing each other in person since February 2024, when the King publicly declared that he had cancer. Fashion and entertainment news also highlighted the couple’s quiet trip to the event, which came after a busy month of travel for the Duke of Sussex.
Recent reports have said that the meeting between father and son was a step toward reconciliation. Us Weekly’s article, which was put together by Yahoo Entertainment, said that a handwritten note from Harry prompted the encounter. The palace has not confirmed those stories.
One805LIVE! proceeds go to help county police, fire, and other emergency services get the equipment and counseling they need. County authorities, including Chief Hartwig, have talked about this cause in the past during record-breaking wildfire seasons.
The two came to Santa Barbara County in 2020, and they have attended to the benefit many times since then. On Saturday, they will be back in a familiar local environment, giving back to first responders in their own backyard.
