Trump Says U.S. Will Provide Any Help Nepal Needs After Floods

President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States was sending aid to Nepal and had offered any help the country needed following flooding.

Reporters questioned Trump during an Oval Office signing ceremony about Americans reported missing in Nepal. He called the situation “terrible” and described the disaster as a brutal mixture of mud and water.

Trump said U.S. officials had contacted Nepal and told the country that any assistance it requested would be available. “We’ve always had a good relationship with Nepal,” he said.

He estimated that “50, maybe 60 Americans” had been in the affected area. Trump said officials had not yet received the complete list of Americans reported missing and expressed hope that they were safe.

Trump did not present that estimate as a confirmed missing-person count.

The president did not identify the aid being sent or provide further details about the Americans. He described the destruction as severe, expressed concern that lives may have been lost and gave no casualty figure.
