At the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, Lady Gaga won Artist of the Year. She also won Best Collaboration for “Die With a Smile” with Bruno Mars, bringing her total number of awards to four. The ceremony was hosted by LL Cool J.
Ariana Grande’s short video “Brighter Days Ahead” won Video of the Year and Best Pop, showing how well she was doing throughout the ceremony. According to People’s list of winners, she also won Best Long Form Video.
As the presentation leaned toward female pop power, Sabrina Carpenter won two big awards: Best Pop Artist and Best Album for ‘Short n’ Sweet’. Alex Warren was chosen the best new artist. For “APT,” ROSÉ and Bruno Mars won Song of the Year.
Mariah Carey won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and sang a medley of songs from her whole career, starting with her new single “Sugar Sweet.” She also won Best R&B for “Type Dangerous,” which was her first VMA win.
The global genre categories showed off a lot of international stars: Tyla won Best Afrobeats for “PUSH 2 START,” and Shakira won Best Latin for “Soltera.” Megan Moroney won the first Best Country award for “Am I Okay?” and Lisa won the Best K-Pop award for “Born Again,” which featured Doja Cat and Raye. The best group was BLACKPINK.
Gaga won four accolades, including two for “Abracadabra” (Direction and Art Direction), as well as her collaborative win and the top artist award.
The show also gave out unique awards other than Vanguard. Busta Rhymes won the Rock the Bells Visionary Award, and Ricky Martin was named Latin Icon.
