As players in Virginia keep winning big rewards, the Powerball jackpot has increased to an estimated $1.3 billion for the drawing on Wednesday, September 3.
Three huge winners in the Commonwealth came from the drawing on Monday, September 1: one ticket worth $1 million and two tickets worth $150,000 apiece. The $1 million ticket was bought at Wawa, 8704 Sudley Road in Manassas, and it matched the first five numbers, according to the VA Lottery. The two winners of $150,000 matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball. Each one had the Power Play option, which increased the normal reward of $50,000 to $150,000. Both of those tickets were bought online with the Virginia Lottery mobile app.
The drawing on Saturday, August 30, also gave out a lot of smaller prizes. Three tickets that matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball earned $50,000 apiece. A total of 128,405 tickets were sold in Virginia. People bought the $50,000 tickets at Kroger (2801 Hicks Road) in North Chesterfield, Publix (4591 South Laburnum Avenue) in Henrico, and 7-Eleven (3500 Deep Creek Blvd.) in Portsmouth.
More than 5,300 Virginia Lottery stores around the state and online through the Virginia Lottery app sell Powerball tickets. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., there is a drawing. There are prizes from $2 to the jackpot. The chances of winning any reward are 1 in 25 chances, and the chances of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. Players need to be at least 18 years old.
