A ticket sold in Quincy, Illinois, matched all six numbers in the Aug. 12 drawing to win the $1.04 billion jackpot, according to Powerball .
The winning ticket came from Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh at 310 N. 36th St., according to Powerball. The winning numbers in the Aug. 12 drawing were 4, 26, 66, 67, 69 and Powerball 9.
The announcement did not identify the ticket holder.
By the lottery’s count, the prize ranks second-largest ever won in Illinois, eighth-largest in Powerball history and biggest in the game this year.
The retailer will receive a $500,000 cash bonus for selling the ticket, the lottery said.
“This is an exciting day for Illinois,” said Harold Mays, director of the Illinois Lottery. Every ticket sold during the run helped fund Illinois public schools, he added.
Since the run began May 4, Illinois players have spent more than $53.8 million on Powerball tickets, the lottery reported, sending over $21.5 million to the Common School Fund.
The winner has one year from the drawing to claim the prize.
