Fairfax County is once again accepting applications for its Tree Distribution to Community Organizations program, with a deadline set for October 31, 2025.
The initiative, organized by the county’s Urban and Community Forestry Division in partnership with Casey Trees, aims to expand tree coverage across the region—especially in economically disadvantaged areas with low existing tree canopy. The program offers free, high-quality, native trees to local volunteer groups, civic associations, and faith-based organizations.
According to the Fairfax County website, tree deliveries will begin this fall and conclude no later than November 21, 2025. Supplies are limited, and applications will be processed on a first-come, first-reviewed basis.
The program focuses on planting trees on private properties located within or near areas designated by Fairfax County’s One Fairfax Vulnerability Index. However, applications are welcomed from all community organizations countywide.
Trees will be supplied directly from the Casey Tree Farm, one of the region’s premier nurseries. Each tree measures approximately 8 to 10 feet tall, weighs 130–150 pounds, and meets ANSI Z60.1 landscape standards. All species offered are non-invasive, native to the region, and in compliance with Fairfax County’s Natural Landscape Policy.
The trees come at no cost to recipients. Delivery includes drop-off at a single location specified by the organization in its application, with professional loading and unloading included.
To apply, community organizations can visit the Fairfax County Tree Distribution Program page for full details and application instructions.
