Ukraine Hits Russian Oil and Chemical Sites More Than 700 Kilometers Inside Russia

Strikes hit Yaroslavl oil facility and Tula's Azot plant as air alerts spread across 28 Russian regions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that Ukrainian forces struck an oil facility in Russia’s Yaroslavl region and a chemical plant in the Tula region as part of what he called a long-range strike campaign on Russian targets.

Zelenskyy made the announcement in a post on X, saying the oil facility was located more than 700 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.

The Tula target, he said, was the Azot plant, which he described as critical to Russian explosives production.

Air traffic restrictions were imposed at six Russian airports following the strikes, according to Zelenskyy. He said 28 regions of Russia had been under air raid alerts since Saturday evening.

Ukrainian forces also struck military logistics targets in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory, Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy said the strikes were a response to Russia’s refusal to negotiate. He said Ukraine had offered Russia “every possible format for negotiations” but received only “continued aggression” in response.
