UAE Says Air Defenses Responding to Missiles and Drones From Iran

The Ministry of Defense said sounds heard across parts of the country came from air defense operations.

The United Arab Emirates said Monday that its air defense systems were responding to missile and drone threats coming from Iran, according to the UAE Ministry of Defense.

In a statement on X, the ministry said sounds heard in scattered areas of the country were the result of air defense systems engaging ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones.

“UAE Air Defences system are actively engaging with missiles and UAV threats,” the ministry said. “MOD asserts that the sounds heard across the country are the result of ongoing engaging operations of missiles and UAV’s.”

According to Arab News, UAE air defenses responded to four missiles fired from Iran. The outlet reported that three were intercepted and a fourth fell into the sea.

Arab News also reported that Fujairah, the UAE’s eastern emirate, said an Iranian drone sparked a fire at an oil facility.

Earlier Monday, UAE authorities issued a mobile phone alert warning residents of a potential attack, according to Arab News. The alert warned of possible missile threats and urged residents to “immediately seek a safe place in the closest secure building,” the outlet reported.

The Ministry of Defense did not provide immediate details in the statement about damage, injuries or the number of missiles and drones involved.
