President Donald Trump’s job approval has fallen to 37%, with Democrats holding a 10-point edge on the congressional ballot heading into the November midterms, a New York Times/Siena poll shows.
The poll surveyed 1,507 registered voters between May 11 and May 15.
More than half of voters — 57% — said the country is on the wrong track. Thirty-two percent said it is headed in the right direction.
On the generic congressional ballot, 50% of registered voters said they would support the Democratic candidate in their district. Thirty-nine percent said they would back the Republican, the poll found.
On the economy, nearly half — 49% — called current economic conditions poor. Only 22% gave them a positive rating. Nearly two-thirds, 64%, said Trump has mishandled the economy.
On the war with Iran, 64% said he was incorrect to go to war with Iran. Fifty-five percent said the costs wouldn’t justify the war. Fifty-two percent said military operations should not be resumed without a nuclear deal with the U.S. Thirty-seven percent said they should be.
Dissatisfaction extended to both parties. The poll found 70% of respondents were dissatisfied with the Democratic Party and 64% were dissatisfied with the Republican Party.
