Russia Says Air Defenses Downed 140 Ukrainian Drones Overnight

Russian officials reported drone debris damage in Tuapse and missile damage in Sevastopol, with no injuries reported in Tuapse.

Russia said Tuesday that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed 140 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight across several regions, Crimea and nearby waters, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The ministry said the drones were downed between 8 p.m. Moscow time Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday over the Belgorod, Krasnodar, Kursk, Oryol, Tula, Volgograd and Voronezh regions, as well as Crimea and the Black and Azov seas.

In Krasnodar’s Tuapse Municipality, drone debris sparked a fire at a sea terminal, the region’s operational headquarters told TASS. Officials said the fire was later extinguished and no injuries were reported.

Drone debris also damaged windows in one residential building and five private homes in the Tuapse area, according to the report. First responders were working at the scenes.

In Sevastopol, Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said Ukrainian forces attacked the city with several types of weapons, including what he described as possible Storm Shadow missiles.

Razvozhayev said a missile hit the building of the Central Bank’s Southern Department, setting the roof on fire. He said windows and balconies in nearby buildings were damaged by the blast wave.

More than 20 drones were downed near the city’s Northern Side, Fiolent, Sevastopol Bay and Omega Bay, according to Razvozhayev.

Separately, Russia’s Foreign Ministry posted video footage on X from Starobelsk, in the Luhansk People’s Republic, saying a May 22 Ukrainian attack killed 21 young people and injured more than 60 others. The casualty claim was not independently verified in the provided source material.
