Palm Beach International Airport officially became President Donald J. Trump International Airport on Thursday, and the FAA changed its aviation identifier from PBI to DJT the same day, federal and airport officials said.
The change, approved by the Federal Aviation Administration, will take effect on July 9, the airport said. Air traffic controllers were told overnight. The ICAO code was changed from KPBI to KDJT.
Passengers won’t see the switch anytime soon. The airport said the three-letter IATA code used for booking and ticketing will stay PBI until Aug. 18, when it will change to DJT. Until then, officials have asked travelers to continue using PBI.
The change followed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signing a law March 30. It was approved by state lawmakers in February and signed into a licensing agreement by Palm Beach County commissioners in May.
The change, according to officials, will be implemented gradually and will incur a cost of $5.5 million. The county said the change is only about branding and has no impact on ownership or operations. Trump cannot collect royalties on sales of airport merchandise.
