UK Says It Is Sharing Storm Shadow Missile Technology With Ukraine

Britain is sharing missile technology that would enable Ukraine to build Storm Shadow missiles on its own soil, Defence Minister Luke Pollard said Monday in a post from the UK Ministry of Defence.

Speaking in Devonport on Ukrainian Independence Day, Pollard described SCALP as a UK-French missile and Storm Shadow as its sister weapon, saying they use fundamentally the same technology.

He said producing the missiles in Ukraine would help the country defend itself. “We will stand with them for as long as it takes,” Pollard said.

Pollard also described repeated visits to Ukraine, where he said he had seen front-line personnel and civilians. He referred to people who had lost homes in Russian strikes or loved ones during what he called “Putin’s illegal aggression.”

Allowing Russia to defeat Ukraine would threaten the UK’s national security, he argued, describing the two countries’ security as linked.

The ministry’s post and Pollard’s remarks did not provide a production timetable, target, cost or technical details.
