The 2026 World Cup is now the highest-scoring in history, reaching 173 goals through 60 matches to edge past the 172 set in 2022, FIFA said.
That is one goal more than the old mark.
The governing body announced the milestone on its official social media account, describing it as a new record and the most goals scored at any World Cup.

The record came at the first World Cup to feature 48 teams, expanded from 32 in earlier editions. More teams has meant more games — and more goals. FIFA credited the bigger field and the added matches for the jump.
Scoring has been close to universal. Of the 48 nations, 47 have found the net, FIFA said. The lone exception is Panama.
Panama plays England next, the only side still chasing a first goal after 60 matches.
Whether the record climbs higher now depends on the closing group games and the knockout rounds ahead.
