Trump Announces US-Iran Peace Deal, Strait of Hormuz to Reopen

Signing ceremony set for June 19 in Switzerland as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey credited for brokering agreement

President Donald Trump announced Sunday that the United States and Iran have reached a peace deal, declaring the Strait of Hormuz open and ordering the removal of a U.S. naval blockade.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade.”

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed the agreement on X, saying both sides had declared “the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

The official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Switzerland, Sharif said.

Sharif credited Qatar’s leadership as a key mediator and also cited contributions from Saudi Arabia and Turkey in brokering the agreement.

Trump, in a second Truth Social post, said the deal “will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region,” adding that prior presidents had failed to reach such an agreement with Iran.

A series of meetings is expected this week to prepare for technical discussions before the signing, Sharif said.

Trump said oil would “flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World” once the Strait opens following Friday’s signing.
