IRGC Says It Targeted U.S. Airbase After Strike Near Bandar Abbas

Iran’s claim remains unconfirmed as Kuwait reports air defense activity and AP details earlier U.S. strikes near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it targeted an American airbase early Thursday after what it described as a U.S. strike near Bandar Abbas International Airport, while Kuwait said its air defenses were responding to hostile missile and drone attacks.

The IRGC said the base, which it described as the origin of the strike, was targeted at 4:50 a.m., according to Tasnim News Agency. The statement did not identify the base or provide confirmed details on damage or casualties.

Tasnim also said Iran released footage of what it described as the retaliatory operation. The claim could not be independently confirmed from the information provided.

Separately, Kuwait Army said Kuwaiti air defenses were confronting hostile missile and drone attacks. The General Staff said explosion sounds heard in the area were caused by air defense systems intercepting the attacks.

Kuwait’s military urged the public to follow security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.

It was not immediately clear from the available statements whether Kuwait’s air defense activity was directly connected to the IRGC’s claim.

The developments followed new U.S. military action against Iran on Wednesday. According to The Associated Press, U.S. Central Command forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that officials said posed a threat near the Strait of Hormuz.

AP reported that the U.S. military also struck an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that officials said was preparing to launch a fifth drone. The officials were not authorized to speak publicly and commented on condition of anonymity.

The latest strikes followed U.S. military action Monday against missile launch sites and minelaying boats in southern Iran. The Pentagon described those earlier strikes as defensive, AP reported.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran was “negotiating on fumes,” as his administration pursued a possible settlement tied to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and reducing Iran’s nuclear capability, AP reported.

The U.S. has said it acted with restraint during both military actions this week because of a fragile ceasefire, according to AP.
