Pam Bondi Diagnosed With Thyroid Cancer After Leaving Justice Department, Axios Reports

Axios says the former attorney general was treated after a thyroid cancer diagnosis and has been appointed to a PCAST role focused on AI policy.

Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after leaving the Justice Department and has undergone treatment, Axios reported Tuesday, citing a source.

Bondi, 60, is recovering, according to the report.

The disclosure came as Axios reported that President Donald Trump appointed Bondi to the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, known as PCAST, in a role focused on artificial intelligence policy.

Bondi left the Justice Department last month after Trump ousted her as attorney general, according to Axios. She had attended Supreme Court oral arguments with Trump on April 1 in a major birthright citizenship case.

Katie Miller, a podcast host and former White House official, praised Bondi in a post on X.

“Pam has been quietly kicking cancer’s ass the last few weeks,” Miller wrote. “[Bondi] has a heart of gold.”

Cleveland Clinic says thyroid cancer often has a strong survival outlook, with a five-year survival rate of more than 98%. However, outcomes vary by cancer type and stage, and those details about Bondi’s diagnosis have not been publicly disclosed.
