Pakistan’s top military commander held meetings with senior Iranian officials in Tehran on Thursday, in a visit that produced pointed remarks from Iran’s parliament speaker about U.S. military actions and the country’s weapons buildup during a recent ceasefire.
Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s army chief, met with Iranian President, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the foreign minister during the trip, according to Consulate General of Iran.
Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni received Munir when he arrived in the capital on May 22, 2026, the IRIB reported.
Ghalibaf told Munir that the United States launched military action while Iran and the U.S. were in active negotiations, and later imposed a naval blockade while talks were continuing in Pakistan, IRIB reported.
The parliament speaker also said Iran’s forces used the ceasefire period to upgrade and expand their weaponry, according to IRIB.
Munir departed Tehran after his meeting with the foreign minister concluded.
