Ukrainian unmanned systems struck the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Kstovo, in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region, Ukrainian military officials said, reporting explosions and a fire at one of the country’s major fuel-producing facilities.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said the strike was carried out by the Unmanned Systems Forces and Raid 413, in cooperation with Ukraine’s Security Service. The ministry described the refinery as linked to Russia’s military-industrial supply chain.
The Ukrainian Army’s Unmanned Systems Forces said its operators carried out a series of strikes on the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez facility. The unit said the refinery can process up to 17 million tons of oil a year, making it one of Russia’s largest refineries and a key gasoline producer.
According to the Ukrainian military, the refinery produces more than 50 types of petroleum products, including motor gasoline, aviation fuel, diesel fuel, petroleum bitumen, paraffins, liquefied gases and propylene for the petrochemical industry.
The Unmanned Systems Forces said explosions were reported on the refinery’s territory after the strike, followed by a fire. Citing open sources, the Ukrainian military said the ELOU AVT-6 unit was hit and described it as accounting for more than half of the refinery’s total primary processing capacity.
Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces said the operation was part of its broader effort to reduce Russia’s ability to continue its war against Ukraine.
