WSJ- Iran Rejects Pakistan Meeting With U.S. as Cease-Fire Push Stalls

Regional mediators are weighing Doha and Istanbul after the Pakistan track failed to produce a breakthrough.

Iran has told mediators it will not meet U.S. officials in Pakistan in the coming days and considers Washington’s demands unacceptable, according to a Friday report by The Wall Street Journal.

The Journal said mediators now view the current cease-fire effort as being at a dead end after the latest round of diplomacy failed to produce a breakthrough.

Turkey and Egypt are still trying to keep the talks alive, the report said, and are considering alternative venues including Doha and Istanbul. Mediators are also said to be working on fresh proposals aimed at breaking the impasse.

The setback comes after days of regional efforts to open a path toward a cease-fire through Pakistan-backed diplomacy.
