Iran warned Sunday that it would target US and Israeli fuel, energy, information technology and desalination infrastructure in the region if its own energy sites are attacked, after President Donald Trump threatened strikes on Iranian power plants tied to a 48-hour demand over the Strait of Hormuz. The warning was delivered by Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, according to Iran International.
Trump had said in earlier Truth Social posts, provided in the source material, that the United States would strike Iran’s power infrastructure if Tehran did not fully open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. He also claimed the United States had dealt a devastating blow to Iran, though he did not provide evidence for those battlefield claims in the material provided.
Iran’s latest response sharpened that threat. Zolfaghari said any attack on Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure would trigger strikes on “all fuel, energy, information technology and desalination infrastructure” used by the United States and Israel in the region, Iran International reported.
The rhetoric also spread through Iranian state-linked media. In another Iran International report, Mehr news agency warned that even a limited strike on Iran’s electricity infrastructure would plunge the region into darkness. The report said Mehr published a map of major Gulf power plants and claimed 70% to 80% of the region’s major power plants are built along the Persian Gulf coastline and are within range of Iranian missiles.
“Following previous warnings, if Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure is attacked by the enemy, all energy, information technology, and desalination infrastructure belonging to the US and the regime in the region will be targeted,” Iran’s military operational command said in a statement on Tasnim news agency Sunday.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes, carrying a major share of global oil and gas flows.
The latest exchange points to a widening confrontation: Trump is threatening direct strikes on Iran’s power network, while Iranian officials and state-linked media are warning of broad retaliation against regional infrastructure if that happens.
