An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer tried to enter Ecuador’s consulate in Minneapolis around 11 a.m. Tuesday but was blocked by consular staff, Ecuador’s foreign ministry said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility released a bulletin on X, which stated, in part, “The Consul of Ecuador in Minneapolis reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer attempted to enter the Consulate in Minneapolis. Immediately, the staff prevented him from entering the consular office. The Consulate activated the emergency protocols established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protect Ecuadorian citizens who were in the Consulate at the time.”
The foreign minister in Ecuador then presented a note of protest to the United States Embassy in Ecuador, requesting that such an incident not be repeated in any Ecuadorian consulate in the United States, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The United States government had not been cited in an Ecuadorian statement as to why the incident occurred.
