No Kings Coalition Launches Nationwide Day of Peaceful Protests Today

Millions join the No Kings movement in cities across America, calling for democracy and constitutional limits on presidential power.

Americans from all 50 states plan to protest Saturday in a coordinated day of peaceful demonstrations sponsored by the No Kings coalition, which states the events are intended to resist what it terms authoritarian overreach by the Trump administration. Organizers have verified hundreds of actions across the country and are sending participants to an interactive map of events. The coalition anticipates a diverse turnout following last month’s mass mobilization, according to Public Citizen.

The coalition emphasizes de-escalation and safety. A central guideline, expressed by No Kings, is an absolute commitment to legal, nonviolent protest; organizers encourage individuals to leave weapons at home and to focus on de-escalation if confronted.

The day of action is in reaction to what organizers have described as increasing federal crackdowns in U.S. cities and hard-line immigration policies. “On October 18, we’re going to show up stronger and more organized than ever before,” said Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible, as quoted by Public Citizen. Leah Greenberg, Indivisible’s co-executive director, said the movement has “grown stronger” since June and will return to the streets to affirm that “power belongs to the people,” according to Public Citizen.

Organizers state that the coalition crosses labor unions, democracy groups, civil rights groups, and immigrant rights organizations, with announcements set in all 50 states. The event directory is hosted on Mobilize, where hosts are listing local rally times and meeting places.

Movement leaders continually remind that “America has no kings.” Trump has “checked every box of a king’s playbook,” and protesters are rallying around a pro-democracy platform that puts communities first and the rule of law, said Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen.

The coalition’s “About” page characterizes the effort as a nonviolent, grassroots movement “born in the streets” and fueled by millions since June, as reported by No Kings. The Saturday schedule will feature rallies, marches, and teach-ins by local allies, with community and faith-based trainings in advance of the day.

Indivisible is coordinating national messaging and turnout, with the slogan “In America, we don’t do kings.” The coalition’s toolkit and “know your rights” materials are online on the No Kings website for participants.

Organizers say the protests will be peaceful and will focus on democratic norms, the right to vote, and constitutional checks on presidential power. The coalition said it would release updated attendance figures after the day’s activities, according to Public Citizen.
