Israeli Army Detains 35 Across West Bank; House Demolished, At Least 10 Injured in Clashes

Mass overnight raids across multiple West Bank cities leave dozens detained and several injured, rights groups say.

Israeli forces detained 35 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank since Wednesday night, according to a statement from the Palestinian Prisoner Society cited by Anadolu Agency. The arrests were reported in Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarem, Hebron, Qalqilya, Jericho and East Jerusalem, with the group saying children and former prisoners were among those taken.

Witnesses told Anadolu Agency that nine people were arrested in two northern towns of Tulkarem, two in Nablus, three in eastern Qalqilya and five in Jenin. Two Palestinians were detained in Bethlehem and two others, including a child, in Hebron, the witnesses said.

Murad Ashtiwi, director of the Palestinian Authority’s Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, was also taken into custody and later released after a brief investigation, the body said, as reported by Anadolu Agency.

Separately, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian home in the Ramallah-area village of Al-Mughayir, citing the lack of a building permit, the village council chairman, Amin Abu Alia, told the outlet. He said about 70 additional houses face demolition under existing orders.

At least 10 Palestinians were injured during evening raids and confrontations, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. The organization said one person was wounded by live fire in Qalandiya, north of East Jerusalem, and another in the town of Al-Ram. The state news agency Wafa reported that tear gas fired near the separation wall in Qalandiya caused multiple cases of inhalation.

In Nablus, the Red Crescent said four people were injured by Israeli gunfire, including a 15-year-old hit by shrapnel. According to Wafa, the total number of injured in Nablus rose to eight, including three children. The agency added that forces used stun grenades and tear gas in the city center, arrested a young man and seized his vehicle before withdrawing.

Witnesses told Anadolu Agency that raids in Nablus targeted several public buildings, including the Fire Department headquarters, where a number of Palestinians were detained and questioned in the field. Images posted by activists appeared to show vandalized facilities.

Local Palestinian authorities say more than 1,000 people have been killed in the West Bank, around 10,300 wounded and over 20,000 arrested—including 1,600 children—since the Gaza war began in October 2023, as reported by Anadolu Agency.

Background: Israel frequently cites the absence of construction permits to demolish Palestinian homes, especially in Area C, which remains under Israeli administrative and security control under the Oslo framework.

In July, the International Court of Justice said Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to Anadolu Agency.
