Putin-Trump Meeting Venue Agreed, Kremlin Says as Ceasefire Talks Advance

Russian state media TASS reports the Putin-Trump meeting location has been agreed, with plans underway for potential Ukraine ceasefire talks.

    THE BRIEF
    • The venue for a Putin-Trump meeting has been agreed “in principle,” according to the Kremlin.
    • Trump has suggested the meeting could help bring the Ukraine war to an end.
    • A trilateral summit with Zelensky may follow the bilateral talks.

    What We Know

The Kremlin confirmed on Wednesday that the venue for a highly anticipated meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump has been settled “in principle” and will be announced soon, Russian state media TASS reported. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov told reporters that discussions are already underway between Moscow and Washington to finalize the parameters of the meeting, TASS added.

“We have launched work to discuss the parameters of such a meeting and the venue for it jointly with our American colleagues now,” Ushakov said, according to TASS. “By the way, I’d like to note that the venue, too, has been agreed in principle and will be announced a bit later.”

President Trump had earlier signaled that a direct meeting with Putin was imminent, hinting that the talks could lead to the end of the war in Ukraine. He told reporters: “There’s a good chance there will be a meeting very soon,” and added, “We had some very good talks with President Putin today.”

The momentum follows the August 6 meeting between Putin and U.S. Special Envoy Steven Witkoff in Moscow — a development Trump referred to while discussing potential peace negotiations.

The New York Times reported that Trump is targeting next week for the face-to-face with Putin, followed by a trilateral summit that would include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. CNN has also confirmed that Trump has instructed his aides to prepare for both meetings.

    What They’re Saying

“The venue [for a Putin-Trump meeting] has been agreed in principle and will be announced a bit later.” — Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, as quoted by TASS

Trump’s tone suggests urgency and optimism: “We could be ending [the war],” he said, referring to the Ukraine conflict. Sources close to the White House suggest the Trump administration views the meetings as part of a potential framework for ceasefire negotiations.
