Operation Sindoor triggers military, diplomatic, and global travel repercussions as India and Pakistan exchange fire and accusations.
Tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate in the aftermath of India’s “Operation Sindoor,” with intensified military actions, drone incidents, and a growing chorus of international concern. Indian leaders have doubled down on their resolve, citing the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack as the red line that triggered a forceful military response.
India’s Position: “Befitting Reply to Terrorism”
According to Times of India, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that the strikes carried out by Indian armed forces on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK were a “befitting reply from India to those who dare to challenge our borders, military and citizens.”
Shah said that the operation, launched after specific inputs, destroyed terrorist training camps, weapons bases, and hideouts belonging to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. He emphasized Prime Minister Modi’s firm resolve and noted that unity shown by states had boosted national morale.
Drone Incidents and Pakistani Injuries
The Director General of Pakistan’s ISPR, as reported by Dawn, stated that four Pakistani army personnel were injured when an Indian drone was engaged near Lahore. Multiple drones reportedly violated Pakistan’s airspace, prompting anti-air responses near Karachi and Sindh.
Rising Civilian Toll and International Response
As reported by Times of India, Pakistani shelling has killed 15 Indian civilians and injured over 43 in LoC-adjacent districts including Baramulla, Kupwara, and Poonch. Indian forces have also neutralized several infiltrators in counter-operations.
The European Union issued a strong statement saying:
“We unequivocally condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April and the murder of innocent civilians. Terrorism can never be justified. Those responsible for the attack must be brought to justice. Every state has the duty and the right lawfully to protect its citizens from acts of terror.”
“The EU is monitoring closely and with great concern the growing tensions in the region and the ensuing consequences, including the possible loss of more lives. The EU calls on both parties to exercise restraint, to de-escalate tensions and desist from further attacks to safeguard civilian lives on both sides.”
U.S. Travel Warnings and Regional Closures
The U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 3 travel advisory for India, urging citizens to reconsider travel to Jammu & Kashmir. It also issued a non-essential travel warning for Pakistan, especially near the LoC and Balochistan.
Flight disruptions continue across northern Indian and Pakistani airports, while border trade remains suspended.
With both nations engaged in military operations and escalating rhetoric, the India-Pakistan standoff remains highly volatile. As the international community appeals for de-escalation and dialogue, both sides continue to reinforce their respective positions on national defense and anti-terror action.
