U.S. Strikes Iranian Radar and Drone Sites After American Drone Downed Over International Waters

No U.S. troops were hurt as fighter aircraft destroyed Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two attack drones during weekend operations

U.S. forces hit Iranian radar installations and drone command facilities over the weekend after Iran shot down an American military drone, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Sunday.

The strikes targeted sites in Goruk, Iran, and on Qeshm Island on Saturday and Sunday. CENTCOM said U.S. fighter aircraft also destroyed Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones during the operation.

The military said the drones had posed a threat to ships moving through regional waters.

Iran downed a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was flying over international waters, triggering the American response, according to CENTCOM. No U.S. service members were hurt.

CENTCOM described the strikes as “measured and deliberate” and said it will continue defending U.S. assets against what it called “unwarranted Iranian aggression during the ongoing ceasefire.”
