WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Saturday, in a post on Truth Social, that he has offered the job of White House press secretary to Dana White, the chief executive of the UFC, and he urged the longtime fight promoter to take it.
Trump said he had asked White to bring assistants with him, “even though some are not from our Country,” and he listed six names: Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harris, as the last name was spelled in his post.
“We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left,” Trump wrote.
“Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”
White gave a public answer of sorts. According to The Washington Sun, he posted a screenshot of Trump’s announcement on his Instagram story minutes later, together with a photograph of himself standing at the lectern in the White House press gallery, captioned: “On to the next chapter.”
Whether the offer was meant seriously is not yet clear. The Washington Sun reported that it was unclear whether Trump made the comment in jest, or whether White would accept the job, and that neither White nor the White House immediately responded to requests for comment.
The post is the latest turn in a fast-changing job. Trump’s most recent press secretary, Katie Zacharia, lasted five days in the role before the president fired her, according to The Washington Sun.
Trump’s post did not say whether White had accepted, or when he would start, and the White House has announced nothing further.
