Trump Names Stephen Miller Chief of Staff, Replacing Wiles

Miller, now a deputy chief of staff, takes over on Monday; Wiles moves to Trump's political operation and says Friday is her last day in the job

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Friday on Truth Social that Stephen Miller will become chief of staff on Monday, replacing Susie Wiles, who will move to his political operation.

Miller is now deputy chief of staff. Trump described him in the post as one of his most trusted advisers.

“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Trump Administration, and one of my most trusted advisors, will become the Chief of Staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026,”

On Wiles, he added: “Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — She has done a great job!”

Wiles said Friday would be her last day in the job. In a post on X, she wrote: “Today is my last day as White House Chief of Staff.”

“Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime. I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First,” Wiles wrote.

She added: “More than anything, I’m grateful for the extraordinary people I’ve had the privilege of working alongside. While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will.”

The change comes three days after the midterm elections. Reuters reported that Republicans suffered sweeping losses in Tuesday’s vote, and CNN reported that Democrats regained control of Congress.

Miller is currently a deputy chief of staff. CNN reported that he has widened his portfolio over the past year to include wide swaths of domestic policy.

Wiles was Trump’s campaign manager in the 2024 election and was the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff, CNN reported. She recently announced she had completed treatment for breast cancer, CNN reported.

Trump’s post did not give a reason for the change and did not say what Wiles will do in the new role beyond moving to his political operation.
