Trump Pauses ‘Project Freedom’ in Strait of Hormuz as Iran Talks Continue

Trump said the blockade would remain in effect while negotiators try to finalize an agreement with Iran.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he has paused Project Freedom, a U.S. operation to push ships through the Strait of Hormuz, citing progress toward a deal with Iran and a request from Pakistan and other countries to stand down temporarily.

Announcing on Truth Social, Trump said the pause followed requests from Pakistan and other countries. The pause is intended to give negotiators time to determine whether the agreement can be finalized and signed, President Trump said.

The blockade in Strait of Hormuz stays in place during the pause, he said.

Trump called the operation “Project Freedom” and described it as the movement of ships through the strait. He said the pause came after what he characterized as “tremendous Military Success” in the U.S. campaign against Iran.

“Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran,” Trump wrote.

Trump announced the “Project Freedom” Sunday, saying countries around the world had asked Washington to help ships he described as “locked up” in the waterway.
