Knoxville, Tennessee- The Knoxville Police Department (KPD) said there are multiple victims, including a KPD police officer, after a shooting at Austin-East Magnet High School, Tennessee on Monday afternoon.
Police said Officers were called to the school around 3:15 on the report of a “male subject who was possibly armed in the school.”
When officers approached the male with the gun, shots were fired, according to a press release.
A KPD officer was shot at least once and was taken to UT Medical Center with injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening.
One male was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release. Another person was detained for further investigation.

Superintendent Bob Thomas said on Twitter that the school building has been secured and that all students who were not involved have been released to reunite with their families.

President Donald Trump said the United States was sending aid to Nepal and would provide any help requested. He estimated that 50 or 60 Americans had been in the affected area but said officials had not received the complete list of those reported missing.
