President Donald Trump said Thursday that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to begin a formal 10-day ceasefire starting at 5 p.m. EST and that he plans to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House for talks.
In posts on Truth Social, Trump said he had “excellent conversations” with Aoun and Netanyahu and said the two leaders agreed to the ceasefire as part of an effort to move toward peace between their countries.
Trump also said Israel and Lebanon met in Washington on Tuesday for what he described as their first meeting in 34 years. He said Secretary of State Marco Rubio took part in that meeting and that he has directed Vice President JD Vance, Rubio and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine to work with both sides toward what he called a lasting peace.
In a separate post, Trump said he would invite Netanyahu and Aoun to the White House for what he described as the first meaningful talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983. He said both sides want peace and added that he believes it will happen quickly.
Trump’s posts did not include separate confirmation from the Israeli or Lebanese governments. Based on the source material provided, the ceasefire and proposed White House meeting were announced by Trump on Truth Social.
