Judge Blocks Trump’s Bid to Remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook

D.C. court grants emergency relief, keeping Lisa D. Cook on the Federal Reserve Board during ongoing litigation.

A federal judge in Washington D.C. has blocked President Donald Trump from trying to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa D. Cook.

The judge has issued a temporary injunction that keeps her in office while the lawsuit moves forward.

U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb said, “President Trump has not shown that Cook’s behavior or job performance as a board member is hurting the board or the public interest by doing her job poorly or dishonestly.”

The court also ruled that Cook would suffer “irreparable harm” if she were removed today, and that the president probably violated her procedural due-process rights by posting his letter of dismissal in on social media without of giving her enough warning.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia’s decision stops the removal and keeps her in office while the case proceeds.

The order said that the legal requirement for emergency relief was met on several levels, such as the likelihood of success on the merits and the balance of damages.

Cook is still a member of the Federal Reserve Board until the court decides what to do next.
