Ukraine Says It Struck Oil Port, Kronstadt Near St. Petersburg

Zelenskyy says “long-range sanctions” reached oil facilities and a key military target 850 km away

Ukrainian forces struck port oil infrastructure and Kronstadt near St. Petersburg overnight, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Saturday, reaching targets more than 850 kilometers from Ukraine’s border.

The strikes hit oil facilities that generate revenue for Russia’s war effort, Zelenskyy said in a post on X, calling Kronstadt “an important military target.” He described the attacks as part of Ukraine’s “long-range sanctions” campaign against Russia.

The claims could not be independently verified, and Zelenskyy’s post gave no details on damage or casualties.

The claimed strikes come after days of heavy Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. A Russian airstrike on Sumy’s city center killed four people Friday, including a child, and injured 27, Zelenskyy said, while a drone attack on Zaporizhzhia killed two.

Russia’s earlier overnight strike on Kyiv killed 30 people — more than double the initial toll — with 10 missing and nearly 100 wounded, according to Zelenskyy, as rescuers worked at three sites.

This is a developing story. Virginia Times will update as information becomes available.
