Zelensky Says Ukraine Struck Two Russian Oil Refineries Overnight

Strikes reported hundreds of kilometers inside Russia as Kyiv presses its long-range campaign on fuel supplies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian forces struck two Russian oil refineries in overnight drone attacks — a claim Russian regional officials partly backed up, reporting a fire, a death and an injury in the Krasnodar region.

In a statement marking Ukraine’s Constitution Day, Zelensky said the strikes hit the Slavyansk refinery in the Krasnodar region, about 300 kilometers from the front line, and a refinery in the Yaroslavl region, roughly 700 kilometers from Ukraine’s border.

He described the operations as “long-range sanctions” meant to weaken Russia’s war effort, saying each strike means “fewer resources serving Russia’s war machine, and another step toward peace.”

The governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratyev, said a fire broke out at the Slavyansk refinery and that one person was killed and another injured in a nearby village, according to Reuters.

Officials in the Yaroslavl region also briefly closed roads leading to Moscow. Virginia Times could not independently confirm how much damage the strikes caused.

This is a developing story. Virginia Times will update as information becomes available.
