President Donald Trump said Sunday he would meet with D.C. mayoral nominee Janeese Lewis George, while attacking her in a Truth Social post and vowing to block her agenda.
Lewis George, a Ward 4 D.C. Council member, won the Democratic primary for mayor on June 16, defeating former council member Kenyan McDuffie about 53% to 37%, according to the Associated Press.
In the heavily Democratic city, she is favored to win November’s general election and succeed Mayor Muriel Bowser, who is not seeking a fourth term. She has not yet been elected.
In the post, Trump called her a “Communist,” a label he offered no evidence for. She describes herself as a democratic socialist.
Trump claimed Lewis George wants to empty prisons, make Washington a sanctuary city, defund police and expand cashless bail. Several claims exceed her record.
She has introduced legislation to end cooperation between D.C. police and ICE, but during the campaign she called the defund-police charge a “scare tactic” and cited her votes to fund the police budget.

Trump wrote that he would meet with her, but gave no date or location. He has previously said he might run the city on a federal basis if she won.
Lewis George had not responded as of publication.
