Tallahassee Shooting Injures 12, Including Six Juveniles

Police said 11 victims were shot near Perry and Manatee streets.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — At least 12 people, including six juveniles, were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University on Saturday night, Tallahassee police said.

Eleven people sustained gunshot wounds. At least three shooting victims had serious injuries, while nine others were reported in stable condition, the Tallahassee Police Department said. Six victims were adults and six were juveniles.

The shooting occurred shortly before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets. Preliminary findings indicate that a physical altercation preceded the gunfire, police said.

The department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the circumstances and working to identify those responsible.

“It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured.”

— Police Chief Lawrence Revell

Revell said officers entered the area before the scene was fully secured, carried victims to safety and transported them to a hospital.

Florida A&M University said the incident occurred near its campus on Perry Street. The university said the campus remained safe and asked people to avoid the area while police investigated.

Police called the information as preliminary and could change as detectives gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.

The department asked witnesses to call 850-891-4200. Anonymous information may be submitted to Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
