Macron Says Racist Terror Attack Leaves One Dead, Five Critical

A young girl is among those critically injured as the French president pledges support for victims and their families.

One person was killed and five others were critically injured in an attack in Trappes and La Verrière, French President Emmanuel Macron said Friday, calling it an act of terrorism with a proven racist motive.

Macron identified the man killed as Pengo Bossio Wangi. Among the wounded was a young girl fighting for her life.

In his statement on X, the president said the attack marked a turning point for France. He offered the nation’s support to the victims and their families and pledged to continue the fight against racism.

Macron also recalled Christians and Jews killed in previous attacks because of their religion. He urged people not to rank the suffering of victims or turn the attack into a dispute that would add to the families’ grief.

“None of these victims must be forgotten. No pain must be ranked above another,” he said, according to the supplied English translation.

The president called on France to stand together against racism, antisemitism and persecution based on religion or skin color. Protecting the public and the values that unite the country would remain his priority, he said.

The statement gave no details about the attacker or how the attack unfolded.
