Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators are making progress in the suspected abduction of Nancy Guthrie, nearly 100 days after the 84-year-old vanished from her Catalina Foothills home, according to Fox News Digital.
Asked on Friday if investigators were closer to solving the case, Nanos told the outlet, “We are.” He added that recent developments were “really great,” though he did not say what investigators had found.
Guthrie, the mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, is believed by investigators to have been taken from her home around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 1, Nanos previously said.
Deputies went to the home around noon that day after Guthrie’s daughter and son-in-law called 911 to report her missing.
The outlet reported that a private forensic lab in Florida sent a hair sample to the FBI late last month for more advanced analysis.
The FBI also obtained Nest doorbell imagery with help from Google, according to the report. The footage shows a masked man of average height and build carrying a holstered pistol at Guthrie’s front steps around the time investigators believe she was abducted.
A man wearing similar clothing was seen approaching Guthrie’s door about three weeks earlier. He has not been publicly identified.
Retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente told Fox News Digital this week that he believes the suspect made several mistakes that could help investigators identify him, unless someone close to him comes forward first.
A combined reward of more than $1.2 million remains available in the case.
