Kyiv Strike Death Toll Rises to 30, Zelenskyy Says; 10 Missing

Rescuers search three sites in the capital as Zelenskyy reports deadly new strikes in four regions

Thirty people are now confirmed dead in Russia’s overnight strike on Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday — more than double the earlier toll — and rescuers are still digging for 10 who remain missing.

Crews at three sites have cleared much of the rubble, according to Zelenskyy. Nearly 100 people were wounded. Children are among them.

Kyiv wasn’t the only target. In Kryvyi Rih, a strike on a garage cooperative left seven wounded and damaged homes and two schools, Zelenskyy said. Another hit a private house in the Kharkiv region overnight, injuring six — three of them children.

Kherson’s regional hospital took a missile strike that killed a doctor and wounded a nurse.

In the Sumy region, four people died when a drone struck an apartment building, he said, among them a mother and her daughter.

Officials had put the Kyiv toll at 13 on Thursday, after Russia fired more than 70 missiles and nearly 500 drones in what Moscow called retaliation against military-industrial targets.

This is a developing story. Virginia Times will update as information becomes available.
